Apple CEO Tim Cook was officially bid farewell at a celebration in the Apple Park. The event took place last Sunday in the Apple Park in Cupertino, reports the IT news service The Information, which is published in Silicon Valley. Cook will hand over the baton to successor John Ternus at the end of the month, who will act as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) starting September 1st. Cook himself will not leave Apple but will become Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, which is comparable to a supervisory board chairman position. The idea is that Cook will continue to advise Ternus and also act as “Chief Diplomat” for Apple in the future.
“One Republic” plays, Tim Cook’s partner present
A small group of Apple employees gathered at the event in the Apple Park, according to The Information, around 200 of the most important people in the company. The farewell took place in Caffe Macs, the company’s huge canteen, which opens onto the extensive garden grounds of the Apple Park. One of Cook’s favorite bands, “One Republic,” performed at the event. The Apple CEO was allowed to hold a guitar after the concert, a picture of which briefly appeared on X but was then deleted.

Among those present who gave speeches were Steve Jobs' widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, ex-COO Jeff Williams, services boss Eddy Cue, and others. Cook himself also spoke, but what exactly he said is not transmitted. An interesting private moment was: The Apple CEO also thanked his partner, who has not appeared in public so far and was apparently also present at the event. Cook mentioned his first name, which is “Mike.” The Apple CEO had publicly announced in 2014 that he was proud to be gay but had always kept his family out of the spotlight.
Transition to John Ternus is “seamless”
The handover to the new Apple CEO John Ternus, 51, is meanwhile “seamless,” as Cook announced in his last announcement of Apple’s figures as CEO last month.
He is “more than pleased” that Ternus is now taking on this new role and leading Apple into the next era. Ternus will have his first major appearance as CEO on September 9th at this year’s iPhone keynote. Even before that, there were first minor changes: Apple surprisingly introduced new Macs in August for the first time in years in August.
