Google is expanding the integration of Gemini and artificial intelligence into its Workspace apps. Gmail, Docs, and Keep can now be searched or summarized by voice command. Users can create documents or log thought processes this way. This is initially reserved for paying subscribers of Google AI for both Android and iOS devices. These functions are expected to be available in German shortly.
The AI assistant Gemini for Google Workspace has been available since November 2024, for example, to transfer handwritten notes into Google Docs or Gmail via smartphone camera or to convert drawn diagrams into digital graphics. In March of this year, Google further expanded Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. The AI assistant was more deeply integrated into the workspace applications and has since been able to create drafts, analyze spreadsheets, and generate presentations.

Some of these functions can now also be controlled with natural language, as Google writes. For example, users can ask Gemini about their Gmail inbox, such as to find a specific email or special information from emails, instead of typing instructions. A window shows the voice conversation with the AI assistant that is automatically recorded.

If the user explains to Gemini what they want to write, the AI assistant can create a draft of the corresponding document in the Docs app. It also shows how Gemini proceeds. If the AI assistant has been granted the appropriate permissions, Gemini can also use information from other Google apps, such as Gmail or Drive.

Google’s notes are typically used for quick storage of ideas, and this can now also be done by voice. Lists or texts can be created or changed without typing, with Gemini also able to use information from the internet to create, for example, a shopping list for a specific meal.
Apps with Live function only for subscribers
Comparable to “Gemini 3.5 Live Translate” for real-time translations, Google calls the apps expanded by voice control “Gmail Live” and “Docs Live,” and in German it should soon also be “Keep Live.” According to Google, this functionality will be available later this week. While Gmail and Keep will be available to all Google AI subscribers, Docs is limited to the more expensive Google AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions. Users of Google Workspace Business will receive these functions shortly.
The data corporation omits to mention in the announcement of these functions which languages are supported besides English. However, since this voice control is based on Gemini audio models, it will also be possible in German. Google confirms this on a help page for “Voice support for Google Workspace with Gemini.” Among the 29 languages listed there is German.
