Next Apple TV 4K could be significantly faster
Instead of a mini-update, Apple’s media box apparently has more in store: The newly installed chip is said to be significantly accelerated, according to a leak.

For users of Apple’s outdated multimedia box, Apple TV, last week’s iPhone keynote was unfortunately a disappointment: there were no new models, nor improved HomePods. However, new hardware information has now leaked that is causing a stir. According to this, Apple is planning technically higher-quality upgrades for the Apple TV devices than previously assumed.
Apple TV 4K Generation 4, alias “AppleTV18,1”
The current Apple TV 4K, now in its third generation, dates from 2022. It runs the A15 Bionic chip, which Apple first used in the iPhone 13 in 2021. While the chip is suitable for video and (lighter) gaming applications, Apple now offers significantly faster variants from its lineup. According to leak expert Aaron Perris, who obtained information from closed Apple betas, Apple plans to install the A19 or A19 Pro in the next generation.

While these are not the very latest chips from the iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, or Duo (A20 Pro), they are on par with the iPhone 17 from last year. Previously, rumors had expected Apple to use the A17 Pro, which comes from the iPhone 15 from 2023. This step would not be illogical: since Apple only updates its Apple TV devices every few years, a comparatively current chip makes sense. According to Perris, Apple refers to the new Apple TV model as “AppleTV18,1" in its code. The numbering scheme “18,1” is familiar from the iPhone 17 models, which, like the iPhone Air, will come with A19 or A19 Pro.
More AI on the TV
It is also conceivable that Apple will use binned versions of its chips in the Apple TV, i.e., with fewer graphics cores. The A19 Pro is also considered a possible candidate for the second-generation MacBook Neo – a binned version is likely to be used here as well. The A19 could enable native AI models on Apple TV devices for the first time. Apple is very interested in implementing Siri AI.
With iOS 27, Apple also recently implemented an improved Apple TV remote function, which enables a new app launcher with direct access to content from specific TV services. The feature can be accessed via the control center.
