Requirements for iOS 27 and Co.: Braids cut, Siri AI partially restricted
While Apple is generous with iOS 27 and supports many systems, the requirements for the full Siri AI are being tightened. An overview.

Initially, everything sounded good: Apple's new iPhone operating system, iOS 27, will, contrary to rumors from recent weeks, be available for all models that also support iOS 26. This means: From iPhone 11 or 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max onwards, you can participate; for the iPhone SE, it starts with the second generation (of course including 16e and 17e). However, there is an important “but”: The new AI functions are restricted depending on the device, even on the iPhone 16, which Apple once advertised as “made for Apple Intelligence.”
The best on-device model
In practice, this means that only iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max can use the most powerful on-device models. The reason: Only these devices have 12 GByte of RAM. However, Apple told YouTuber Marques Brownlee that the only difference lies in the improved (and more configurable by the user) Siri voice, which only the new devices will receive.

Secondly, the on-device dictation functions are said to be better with the top devices. What this means in practice remains to be seen. There are also restrictions with Siri AI on iPads, starting with models with an M4 chip. On Macs, it must be at least an M3 if it has 12 GByte RAM or more.
iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and watchOS 27
With the other operating systems, Apple has partially cut old ties, which is very unfortunate for owners of these devices. On Macs, all Intel models will be dropped with macOS 27, as had been expected. Apple Silicon Macs will run from 2020 (Air, Pro, mini), Apple Silicon iMacs from 2021, the Mac Studio with Apple Silicon from 2022 (i.e., all variants). Of course, the MacBook Neo will also be supported. For the iPad mini, it must be at least generation 6, for the standard iPad generation 9, for the Air with 11 inches generation 4 (13 inches all models), and for the iPad Pro generation 2 (11 inches) or 4 (12.9 inches).
Apple Watch owners will experience a disappointment: with watchOS 27, it only starts with the Series 9, which was released in 2023. And this will surprise many; even the first generation Ultra from 2022 is out: it must always be an Ultra 2. The reasons for this (possibly RAM configuration) are still unclear. The fact that Apple is no longer equipping devices that are only four years old with the latest operating system is unusual and disturbing for buyers. Meanwhile, tvOS 27 also ends support for two models: Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K first generation (from 2015 and 2017, respectively).
