Square: Leak shows possible photo homescreen for new Apple device
Software details of Apple’s new home device have leaked for the first time. A start screen apparently is based on the iPhone Duo – and there are four colors.

Apple’s next product category after the iPhone Duo is coming: reportedly a new smart home device, dubbed “Home Hub” in the rumor mill. Following information on technical details and a possible announcement date (October 13), a well-known code leak sleuth has now discovered the first software details – apparently once again from Apple’s operating systems themselves. It shows a lock screen in the form of a so-called Photo Face. This reveals the format the Home Hub will have. Another leak concerns the possible colors for the device, which is intended to become Apple’s new smart home hub, available both with an integrated larger speaker for placement and for wall mounting.
Standby screen configurable with photos
As leaker pdfu demonstrates on X, Photo Face is based on the Standby mode of the iPhone Duo. Photos from iCloud are displayed on the Home Hub. The iPhone first sends some photos to the device, which are then used for the settings dialog, after which the system loads more photos from the iCloud Photo Library.

You can display individual photos that you can select (specifically selected images, images from collections, and from the system-identified “Featured Photos”), as well as shared albums or Memories. The screenshots of the interface shown in the Xcode simulator indicate that the Home Hub will have a square screen – unusual for a touchscreen device from Apple. According to previous reports, the screen is likely about 6 inches in size, even smaller than an iPad mini. The Xcode simulator does not yet know a name for the new device; it is simply called “Apple Device” here.
A total of four colors for the “Home Hub”
Meanwhile, the leaker pdfu has found another piece of information in Apple’s code. In the context of the Photo Face setup, it appears there will be four colors – it is unclear whether this applies to the table or wall version of the Home Hub.
The alleged colors are Silver, “Space Gray”, “Starlight”, and “Rose Pink”. In the release candidate version 1 of macOS 26.7, which contained numerous other leaks, hints of these colors had already been found. This would mean Apple remains relatively conservative in terms of color.
