The development of Apple's new operating systems is progressing: After the first developer previews for WWDC on June 8, Apple released the second beta of iOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 this week. With the new variants, the iPhone manufacturer is rolling out a whole range of features, improving usability, and fixing bugs. However, a trick that allowed users to skip the queue for Siri AI no longer works. An overview.
iOS 27: RCS optimizations, AirPods equalizer, and a hint of a Home device
With iOS 27 Developer Beta 2, the RCS feature in the Messages app now can use so-called inline replies for the first time. This allows for the creation of proper threads and direct replies to existing messages, similar to iMessage. This can be done by a long press, just like with iMessage messages. Apple has also improved reaction emojis for videos and images (Tapbacks). These are now displayed correctly instead of appearing as text descriptions in the chat.

A new developer firmware is available for download for AirPods (from AirPods Pro 2), which offers the new equalizer function in iOS 27 and macOS 27 – a long-awaited feature for Apple's audio devices. Apple summarizes installation details here. In the Home app, Apple has started updating Apple TV devices as well, so they no longer need to be updated manually. This aligns with rumors of a new Home device that Apple has been working on for some time. This could also be updated via the Home app, as is already the case with HomePods. The “Write with Siri” function has received a new button, making the feature easier to find. The improved Siri voice settings, which are only available from the iPhone 17 Pro, did not work in the first beta; now there is at least a “coming soon” notice. The Wallet app is preparing for a new “Insights” feature with spending information. Smaller improvements are also included in the Siri app (delete conversations simultaneously), HomeKit cameras (play video from notification), and Camera app (better overview of active functions).
macOS 27: Beware of the Siri AI trick
Currently, there is little information available for macOS 27 Developer Beta 2; it appears to primarily include minor improvements. However, it is important to note: A very popular trick that allowed users to skip the Siri AI queue on Mac no longer works. Users should therefore apply it before updating.
The blog Cult of Mac suggests that it can be helpful to notify Apple about errors via the Image Playground reporting function. This might allow you to skip the queue faster. However, Apple divides access. For example, if you already have Siri AI access on your Mac with your Apple ID, you won't automatically get it on your iPad (or with an account from outside the EU on your iPhone).
