Apple Watch Overhaul: New Design – and a Tracker Without a Screen
Apple wants to follow up on its design-neglected smartwatch and is planning to offer a tracker without a screen in the Whoop style for the first time.

Apple is considering changes to its Apple Watch product line. In addition to new form factors, there are also plans to offer a fitness tracker without an integrated screen for the first time in the style of Whoop & Co., reports Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, citing informed sources. However, both the redesign and new, cheaper devices could still take some time. No radical changes are expected from Series 12 and Ultra 4, which are likely to be released in the fall.
“New Era” for the Apple Watch
According to Gurman, Apple is working on “revolutionary design changes” similar to the iPhone, which is expected to get a foldable form factor with the Ultra in the fall. Apple's industrial design team is currently rethinking to create a smartwatch for a “new era”. As devices from Whoop, Fitbit, and others that only track, leaving the display to apps, become increasingly popular – partly due to price – Apple reportedly wants to get involved here too.

The smart ring topic is apparently not entirely settled at Apple either. Among the new design possibilities for the Apple Watch is a round variant, although Apple is said to be unsure here as well. After all, the company could once again introduce premium watches, as the Apple Watch Edition once was. In this context, Apple is also reportedly considering reviving a ceramic model.
Long-term roadmap planned
Apple is taking the trend towards screenless fitness trackers “seriously”, Gurman continues. However, a final decision has not yet been made. Apple's services chief Eddy Cue, who is now also responsible for Apple Health, is considered a fan of Whoop and Oura. How long all this will take – Apple's roadmaps often span several years – is unclear. Gurman himself says that the change will take “its time”. Until then, Apple will primarily improve the internals of its watches in the fall.
The Apple Watch has been on the market for 11 years now. Apple introduced the first model in 2014 and launched it in the spring of 2015. Most recently, the Watch segment grew in revenue by a respectable seven percent.
