So there he is: With John Ternus, Apple has a new Chief Executive Officer as of this week. After all sorts of details about the farewell party of his predecessor Tim Cook, his last message to employees and information about future remuneration in Apple’s top management had leaked, the first direct announcements from Ternus have now been made. He also made his debut on social media and officially took his place as CEO on Apple’s homepage. Only his LinkedIn account is still a bit weak, as marketing experts promptly criticized.
A word on X
Ternus’ very first post on X was minimalist: “hello” (in lowercase and without a period) he wrote there. The profile shows his smiling face, the background is an Apple logo from Apple’s latest keynote invitation. Ternus currently follows exactly three accounts: Apple’s, Tim Cook’s, and Apple’s marketing boss Greg Joswiak’s. The latter immediately replied with a "Hello, indeed" and that there would be “more to say on September 9”.

Ternus was significantly more detailed than on X in his first official memorandum to the staff, which he sent out on his first day of work. In the letter, which MacRumors has obtained, he thanked colleagues for their “warm wishes” and expressed his deep gratitude to Tim Cook for the knowledge and experience he had imparted to him during the transition.
Gratitude and a Launch Event
In particular, he thanked Cook for what he had achieved in recent years. “We’re so lucky to have had a CEO who led with his values and with such decency and humanity. We are all better for it, and I’m so grateful he’ll be our executive chairman.”
He felt honored to take on the new role “at the greatest company in the world”. He was excited about everything to come. “We have a huge launch next week that’s going to be phenomenal.” There are “incredible products” in the pipeline that are already in the works, “and ones we haven’t even imagined yet”. These will be dreamed up and created together. “There’s no team in the world I’d rather build the future with.”
