iPhone prices: Older models get more expensive – initially at Apple
It was expected: After Macs, iPads, and accessories, Apple has now also increased prices for older iPhone models. However, bargains can still be found in retail.

That Apple would increase prices for the new models iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, the sparrows were already chirping from the rooftops considering the RAM and NAND inflation. Furthermore, Apple had already increased prices for Macs, iPads, and accessories in June. Now it becomes apparent: Not only the fresh mobile hardware is becoming pricier, but also the old ones that Apple continues to sell have had their prices increased. This is extremely unpleasant for interested buyers. However, there are, at least for now, alternatives.
Price increases between 100 and 350 Euros
As a look at Apple’s website shows, models have been discontinued as usual. iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are officially no longer available from Apple. However, they continue to be sold in retail. For the iPhone 16, Apple is dropping the iPhone 16 Plus from its lineup, while the iPhone 16 remains available. This is where the first price increase can be found: a whopping 150 Euros increase, from 849 to 999 Euros – for an older model with 128 GByte, mind you.

iPhone 17e and 17, which continue to be sold, are also becoming significantly pricier. The 17 now starts at 1099 euros (256 GByte instead of 949 euros); the 512 GByte model costs 1349 euros instead of 1199 euros. Finally, the iPhone Air remains available in three variants, with 256 GByte, 512 GByte, and 1 TByte. They now cost 1299 euros (previously: 1199 euros), 1549 euros (previously: 1449 euros), and 2049 (!) euros (previously: 1699 euros). So, overall, we are dealing with price increases between 100 and 350 euros.
Where to get the devices cheaper
All these prices are the rates that Apple itself charges. These are traditionally never the cheapest for products that have been on the market for a longer time, especially since Apple does not lower its prices when devices have been available for a long time. It is therefore very worthwhile to take a look at the heise price comparison before you spend too much at Apple. This has no disadvantage with reputable dealers; for later support, you can also contact Apple or go to the Genius Bar of an Apple Store with the device.
Another advantage: Most retailers have not yet caught up with the drastic and immediate price adjustments made by Apple. However, as wholesale prices are also rising, this will not remain the case. Those interested in the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max can also check the price comparison; the prices should fall there too in a few months at the latest. So, if you don’t absolutely need the devices immediately, you shouldn’t order from Apple or a mobile provider at full price.
