Workers at the German Airbus factory in Nordenham protest against the restructuring program announced on Wednesday. The factory is to be sold off under the plan.
The factory in Varel too is set to be sold. Workers at Airbus factories across Germany stopped work to hold protests in front of their factories.
The German factory in Laupheim will also be negatively affected by the Airbus cuts. About 1,000 workers gathered before factory gates on Thursday to protest.
The metal-workers union IG Metall has said it will fight the job cuts announced by Airbus on Wednesday.
Workers elsewhere in Europe were also affected by the announced cuts. Some 400 jobs are to be cut in Spain. Here, at the Airbus plant in Puerto Real, Spain, workers protest against the planned layoffs.
A total of 4,300 jobs are to be cut in France as well. Here, workers at the Saint-Nazaire factory gather in front of the gates on Wednesday after the cuts were announced.
Airbus CEO Louis Gallois (center) made the announcement on Wednesday during a press conference at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse.
A number of politicians are urging Airbus to reconsider. France has announced it will inject a further 100 million into the company.
