Photo Gallery Behind the Bookshelves

Workers uncovered six murals by German painter Otto Dix behind a bookshelf in the artist's former home during renovations on Wednesday. The house is being turned into a museum dedicated to the painter and it now finds itself one attraction richer as it prepares for its reopening to the public in June.

Dix was considered one of the most important painters in the interwar years in Germany. Pictured here is a work titled, "Grossstadt," or "Big City," painted between 1927 and 1928.

This is not the first time that work from the artist was later found. Last year a gallery owner in Bavaria found four watercolor paintings produced between 1922 and 1923. Here one of the found pieces called "Strich III," which means both stroke and prostitution. It depicts a street scene of prostitutes.
