The Interior Ministry of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia is taking a new tact and using a comic book -- with colorful images and "youthful language" -- to battle home-grown Jihadism.

This is the cover of the comic book commissioned by the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia to teach children about Islamism and terrorism. In the middle is Murat, a troubled Turkish youth, who gets caught up in the machinations of Harun, a boy who has been radicalized by a local man preaching Jihad.

One kid says to the others: "Hey, do you know that new guy?" Murat, who has had a difficult time finding an apprenticeship, points to the radicalized Harun and answers: 'Yeah, he lives right around the block from me.'

Murat's sister Ayshe is dating Murat's friend Andi and is meant to be the model Muslim girl. She wears a headscarf, is a pious Muslim and is a supporter of liberal democracy. Here she tells a fellow Muslim: "That's total garbage! Fairness by force? That's a contradiction!"

Harun takes Murat to meet a hate-mongering religious leader. The leader preaches hatred against the West and shows them Web sites showing attacks against Western forces in Iraq: "The battle is waged on the Internet, too. Look at this Web site. It's showing Jihad Fi Sabilillah (Jihad on the Way to God) in Iraq."

Being rather impressionable, Murat starts becoming radicalized. Here he speaks to Andi, who's dating his sister: "Stay away, Andi! I have recently come to know the true Islam, and it doesn't allow my sister to mess around with an infidel." (The book's title is 'Invitation to Jihad.')

Harun has explained to Murat that Islam forbids basketball. Murat's old friends have a hard time understanding what's going on. Here, one of Murat's new, radicalized friends explains to his old friends: "Murat is now on our team – Team Mujahedeen!"

The change comes when Harun tries to put an end to Andi and Ayshe's relationship by force and Murat stops him. Murat says: "Stop, Harun! Don't touch my sister!" To which Harun responds: "She has strayed from Islam, Murat, and must be punished!"

Along with Murat's change of heart comes a change of luck, as he learns that he has been granted an apprenticeship. A friend says: "Hey, Murat. Dude, let's roll to my new boss next week. I told him about you, and he wants to meet you." Murat responds: "Maybe he'll have a spot for me and we can be workmates. Dude, is that cool, or what?" Check out Andi's Adventures
