This week the UN Security Council leveled further sanctions against Iran in order to increase pressure on the country to abandon its nuclear program. Germany is one of Iran's biggest trading partners and the sanctions will hurt some companies here, but many have already began a step-by-step retreat due to the politically unstable situation.

Business has been particularly good for Germany: Over the last year local companies delivered goods worth around 3.7 billion (around $4.47 billion) to the Islamic Republic.
