Photo Gallery Eyes Wide Open
Germany's new polar bear star, the female cub born late last year at Nuremberg Zoo, has opened her eyes. After laboring to open first her left eyelids, then her right, she's seeing the world for the first time.

The young bear was photographed Tuesday with one of her carers, Harald Hager. Her carers recounted the eye-opening, saying the cub labored to open her left eye just a crack -- and then opened her right eye with ease.

An international contest has been founded to name the young cub. More than 15,000 possible names have already been e-mailed to the zoo since the contest started last Friday.
