Photo Gallery Knut Turns One
Germany and the world have watched Knut, the famous polar bear in the Berlin zoo, grow up. On Wednesday, he turned one year old. And he was in the mood to party.
Always famous for his poses, Knut tried out a few new ones on Wednesday.
He even did a bit of break dancing...
...and the YMCA dance...
...before trying out his best Madonna pose.
His visitors, like Christine Falaise from Belgium, were delighted with Knut's performance.
Hundreds showed up to help the (not so) little bear celebrate his first.
But while his human disciples were getting ready to have a bit of Knut birthday cake...
...Knut's keeper Thomas Dörflein (r.) and a helper were bringing out a cake for the polar bear as well. It was chock full of delicacies, like fruit, vegetables, an entire fish and ice cream.
Knut sprinted for his treat as soon as he saw it.
And dove right in, being careful to avoid the wooden candle. At first...
But then Knut decided to attack the candle...
...before upending his "cake" to get to the ice cream at the bottom.
After his feast, Knut played with his new toy.
A new Knut medal was presented on Wednesday as well, in honor of the polar bear's birthday.
Knut may have gotten older, but he is still fond of waving to his guests.
