Hollywood legend Lauren Bacall appeared to have difficulties with her headset at the press conference for her new film "The Walker" during the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale).
Headset are provided at Berlinale events so that non-German speakers can benefit from simultaneous translation. But for Bacall at least it seemed to be more trouble than it was worth.
Eventually the 82-year-old actress, who is best known for her roles in film noir classics such as 1946's "The Big Sleep," managed to get her head set set up -- even if it was in an unorthodox position.
She still didn't seem that happy about it, though.
But then she cheered up. "I have too much energy to stop working and I don't believe in retirement," she said at the press conference.
Bacall brought her dog Sophie to Berlin for the occasion. "At the end of every movie, always I'm feeling, 'You're never going to work again,'" she admitted. "That's going to happen one day, but I hope I'm not alive."
Here Bacall shares a joke with her "The Walker" co-star, the up-and-coming German actor Moritz Bleibtreu. She seemed ambivalent about the current state of the movie industry, however. "I think there are still people who really want to do good work," she said at a news conference. "Unfortunately, in television, sometimes they want to do good work but a lot of the time they're doing terrible work -- and I think that has affected movie-making badly."
