Thousands turned out to watch the restored version of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Friday in one of the main screenings of this year's Berlinale Berlin International Film Festival.
Film buffs braved the snow to catch a glimpse of the silent classic.
The 1927 masterpiece was brutally cut after the US distributors objected to its almost 2.5-hour length.
The film restorers at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau Stiftung were faced with the tasks of fitting the newly discovered footage into the film, and they used the original score to help.
The music, which was composed for the film, helped them to reconstruct the original film to its former glory.
The film was also shown on Friday night in theaters in Berlin and Frankfurt accompanied by live orchestras.
