Photo Gallery Rediscovering 'Metropolis'
Paula Felix-Didier, curator of the Cinema Museum of Buenos Aires, showed reporters long-lost scenes from Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" on Thursday in Berlin.
The footage was discovered in the Buenos Aires museum's archive 80 years after the film was made.
The footage is from the original version of the film before it was cut by distributors. This longer version ended up in an Argentine film critic's private collection.
The lost scenes from the 1927 silent classic are being heralded as enormously important.
German film historians were invited to view the copy of the film this week and they vouched for its authenticity.
The challenge is now to restore the extra scenes, which are in terrible condidtion.
The hope is that the public will in future be able to watch the original version of the film, with its story structure and rhythm intact.
