Photo Gallery Targeting Bush
Bashing Bush was a favorite sport of the German media for much of his presidency. SPIEGEL turned it into an art form and Die Tageszeitung did its part as well.
Left-leaning Die Tageszeitung ran this headline in May 2002 on the occasion of President George W. Bush's speech to the German parliament. The title: Bush's Historic Speech.

"On a Mission from God: George W. Bush's Crusade." The cover ran in early 2003 just before the US invaded Iraq.
Even before Bush ramped up the bellicosity following Sept. 11, 2001, many were mistrustful of the new US president. SPIEGEL ran this cover in April, 2001, with the headline: "The Little Sheriff: George Bush Jr. against the Rest of the World."

Once Bush did begin rattling the saber, though, SPIEGEL came out with this classic in February 2002.
