Photo Gallery Terrorist Bomb Plot Uncovered in Poland
The Polish parliament building in Warsaw. A far-right extremist who planned to blow up the building with top leaders inside has been arrested, Polish authorities said on Tuesday.
During a press conference security experts outlined the 45-year-old university lecturer's plans. He was found to be in illegal possession of explosives and weapons, and was arrested on Nov. 9 in Krakow. He allegedly planned to blow up a car bomb with four tons of explosives outside the parliament building.
Investigators also found materials used for building bombs. In September, the unnamed man allegedly experimented with some 250 kilograms of explosives, they said. A video of a test explosion was found among his belongings.
Evidence collected by police included these weapons parts.
This pistol also belonged to the man, who as a university scientist in Krakow had access to chemical labs.
Bullet-proof vests, helmets and other explosives were also found. Polish television cited those close to the investigation saying that the suspect planned to copy the methods of far-right Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik.
