Former German central banker Thilo Sarrazin unleashed a stomr of protest last year with his controversial book on the integration of Turkish immigrants in Germany.
Sarrazin claimed that immigration was, on the whole, making Germany dumber because of the relatively low-level of education achieved by immigrants in the country. Several other positions he took in his book were at least as controversial. He was forced to resign from Germany's central bank board as a result.

Still, some would say that Sarrazin made some good points that were ignored in the rush to pillory his tract. Fellow SPD member Klaus von Dohnanyi says that Sarrazin was right to criticize the way Germany addresses its demographic problems.
