Photo Gallery The SPD's Campaign Posters
Germany's center-left Social Democratic Party have unveiled their first ads for September's election. "It's a classic testimonial campaign of the sort that is often carried out during election races, whereby likeable-looking people communicate the party's main messages," media expert Michael Spreng told SPIEGEL ONLINE. This poster reads: "Atomic energy was yesterday. The future is clean energy. That's why I vote SPD."
The SPD is using its basic policies as a focal point of the poster campaign: "Education should not be dependent on parents' bank accounts. That's why I vote SPD."
The emphasis of the campaign rests on SPD chancellor candidate's Frank-Walter Steinmeier's election promises: "The SPD is fighting for jobs. For mine and for yours. That's why I vote SPD."
"Healthcare should not be a luxury. That's why I vote SPD." Posters like this one will be joined by others of Steinmeier himself within the next few weeks.
The four main posters will be flanked by six smaller ones, each with one key word to communicate the SPD's policies: "Solidarity. For a fairer country."
"Equality. A strong commitment to real opportunities."
"Finances. Investment instead of speculation."
"Education. First class and without fees."
"Work. Good wages for good work -- for everyone."
"Environment. Clean energy instead of nuclear power."
