Photo Gallery Tracing the NSU Weapon
The trial against Beate Zschäpe, accused of having been a member of the murderous neo-Nazi trio NSU, got underway again on Tuesday. On the stand was the man who supplied the weapon used in the 10 NSU killings. Carsten S. told that court that he had been asked to provide a gun from a German manufacturer.
The Ceska 83, complete with silencer, that was used in most of the killings perpetrated by the National Socialist Underground, the neo-Nazi trio that murdered 10 people between 2000 and 2007, most of them with foreign roots.
Beate Zschäpe is the only surviving member of the NSU, the other two -- Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt -- having committed suicide as the police closed in in 2011.
One of Zschäpe's defense attorneys, Anja Sturm, filed a motion on Tuesday calling for the trial to be thrown out due to the inability to guarantee a fair trial. She says that the state has clearly already decided that her client is guilty.
The trial restarted on Tuesday after a two-week hiatus. Once again, most of the day was dominated by defense motions.
