Transportation Hub
The spectacular design of the new "Transportation Hub" came from the Spanish star architect Santiago Calatrava. The station, which will see up to 250,000 travelers pass through it a day, is meant to provide a more modern alternative to New York's bustling Grand Central Terminal and will cost $3.2 billion.
Twelve subway lines and the rapid transit system connecting New Jersey to Manhattan will cross paths at the new station. The 45 meter-high (148 feet) glass and steel ribs can be opened, allowing light to reach the tracks 20 meters (66 feet) underground.
