Braldt Bralds

Braldt Bralds likes to work with oil on wood, canvas or copper most of all. "It enables you to make countless variations in technique, and its gloss is beautiful beyond compare," he says. Bralds' interest in art began to grow after he visited a museum for the first time when he was 12. The artist, who was born in Hoogkerk, the Netherlands, in 1951, largely tought himself to draw - he never attended an art college. He was driven by the desire to earn his living like the American illustrators he admired so much. With this goal in mind, he headed off to the United States to live: "Measuring up to your heroes keeps you in shape." Bralds works for "Rolling Stone" magazine, "Celestial Seasons" and "National Geographic", and designs covers for "Newsweek", "Time" and DER SPIEGEL. He also has been honored by the Society of Illustrators (New York and Los Angeles), among others.
