Picture This Lynx Looks
Dieser Beitrag stammt aus dem SPIEGEL-Archiv. Warum ist das wichtig?
Germany keeps close tabs on its wildlife, partially a result of having seen most of its largest animals killed off by the beginning of the 19th century. The same fate befell the lynx, with the last one in the country presumeably having been shot prior to World War I. Past decades have seen the cat return and its expansion to wooded areas in Germany has accelerated in recent years. This image, released on Monday, is from a "photo trap" in the state of Hesse. It is unclear how many lynx now live in Germany, but sightings remain extremely rare.
