The leader's condition took a turn for the worse on Tuesday, with the government announcing that his ongoing struggle to recover from cancer surgery has suffered a major setback. Chavez, the announcement noted, has contracted a "severe" respiratory infection and is having trouble breathing. His most recent operation took place three months ago. It was his fourth since being diagnosed in 2011.
