Cross-country skiers start during the Engadin Ski Marathon on the frozen Lake Sils, near the Swiss mountain resort of St. Moritz. More than 12,000 skiers participated in the 42.2-kilometer (26.2-mile) race on Sunday. The event is the largest cross-country ski race to take place in the Alps. Pierre Gudeon of France and Riitta-Liisa Roponen of Finland won the 45th marathon in the men's and women's categories respectively. Competitors at this year's match even included an almost royal touch, with Pippa Middleton, sister of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, also taking part.
