A puppet bearing a likeness to German Chancellor Angela Merkel burns at the Las Fallas Festival on March 20 in Valencia, Spain. The festival celebrates the end of winter with fireworks, parties and bonfires, at which puppets called "ninots" --often used to make satirical statements about issues -- are burned. Merkel is widely unpopular in Spain due to the austerity measures she has championed during the euro crisis.
