In an elaborate ceremony with military honors, British leaders and dignitaries from around the world bid farewell to former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher at St. Paul's Cathedral in London on April 17. It was the first prime minister's funeral to be attended by Queen Elizabeth since the death of Winston Churchill. The coffin of Britain's first female prime minister was escorted to the service by more than 700 members of all three armed forces. Amid applause from spectators, however, there was also protest, highlighting the fact that the Iron Lady remains a divisive figure even after her death.
