A worker drains and rinses soy beans after they have been boiled at a small tempeh factory in Jakarta. Tempeh is a pressed cake made from fermented soy beans, rich in protein and an Indonesian staple. Somewhat ironically, food consumption in the country increases during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, as the faithful gather for daily fast-breaking feasts at sunset. The Indonesian government says it will temporarily increase food imports to keep up with demand.
