Olga Valles, 54, arranges Pope Francis masks as they dry at her family's Condal mask-making factory in Sao Goncalo ahead of the pontiff's visit to nearby Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The pope's July 22-29 stay in Brazil, the world's largest Roman Catholic country, will be his first foreign trip as the head of the church.

"When Pope Francis arrives this week in Brazil, we're going to give him a warm reception," Valles told SPIEGEL. "We've produced 2,000 masks in our factory, which we are selling for about €2 ($2.63) each. We have masks of Obama, bin Laden and Aznar, but Francis is the first pope to be included in our selection. As a model, we used a photo taken at St. Peter's Square in which he can be seen smiling. It was taken just after his election. Fortunately, Francis isn't perfect. He has wrinkles and a double chin, and it was easier to produce than a smooth-faced person like Tom Cruise. The only place we had a few problems was with the plaster on his chin, which broke a few times. In Brazil, we sometimes also like to wear masks with a person's likeness to show that we like them -- so much so that we want to look like that person for a moment."
