Having officially banned shark fishing earlier this year and even creating a national sanctuary for their protection, Indonesians took their love for the predators one step further today by creating a shark-shaped Hindu offering at a local kite festival. Here, several young participants prepare their creation for take-off in the Balinese capital of Denpasar. The event, which will last for three days, is a seasonal religious festival intended to send a message to the Hindu Gods asking for an abundant harvest. Over a thousand kites will be showcased as a part of the effort.
