It's official -- date season has arrived in Saudi Arabia. The fruit, which is harvested from palm trees up to 20 meters (66 feet) tall, is an important export for the Middle Eastern country. Some 100 million tons are retrieved each year. The act of harvesting the fruit is somewhat of an art form. While some high-quality dates are picked individually, most are harvested by cutting off the entire cluster. When the workers are satisfied with their pickings, they simply let themselves drop to the ground. All it takes is practice.
