Hundreds of cultural enthusiasts immerse themselves in an interactive sound installation on Aug. 22 that was designed to remind visitors of the digital data overload they experience on a daily basis. The artwork was devised by Japanese sound artist Ryoji Ikeda, who is known for using sound frequencies at the edges of the range of human hearing, and is part of the Ruhrtriennale music and arts festival in Germany's northwestern Ruhr region. Running annually between August and October, the festival is organized in three-year cycles -- each under a new artistic director. German composer Heiner Goebbels, renowned for his work in theater, film and ballet, has been curating the event since 2012.
