More than 200 firefighters were deployed in northwestern Spain on Wednesday, as the weather service declared that over three-quarters of the country was under extreme risk of fire. Fires have been raging in the region for the better part of one week, with some 300 people evacuated from their homes near the Portugese border. Spain is highly prone to forest fires during the summer months, due to dry vegetation, high temperatures and strong winds. Members of the forest brigade of Riveira, near the town La Coruna, fought the flames until the early hours of Wednesday morning.
