A Dense Web IMI Actors in the Pharmaceuticals Network

Dieser Beitrag stammt aus dem SPIEGEL-Archiv. Warum ist das wichtig?

The European Union's Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) is a public-private partnership that creates a fascinating network between pharmaceutical companies, universities and public research institutions.

In this graphic, we illustrate the cross-linkage between companies and research institutions that participate in IMI projects. Links between participants are displayed when they share at least two common projects. The name of the entity is displayed by running the mouse over the dot.

Use the selection menu ("Emphasis") in order to mark certain dots in red. This will demonstrate, for example, that universities tend to be at the periphery of the network and that major pharmaceutical companies are usually more tightly interlinked at the center.

Each dot represents an IMI participant. The more IMI projects a company or research institution is involved in, the larger the size of the dot. The number of projects is decisive in determining the size of the dot.

Lines between two dots indicate that the organizations share at least two common projects. The line gets thicker the more joint IMI projects the two participants have in common. Blue lines indicate that organizations share more than 10 common IMI projects.
