A giant column of ash spews six kilometers (3.7 miles) high from Bulusan volcano as seen from Sorsogon City in the eastern Philippines on Tuesday. The eruption rained ash on two towns, but there were no reports of casualties, officials said. If the eruption persists, several villages near the lower slopes could be in the path of volcanic ash carried down by rivers and streams. Bulusan is one of the island nation's 22 active volcanoes -- it is known to have erupted 16 times, most recently in early 2006.
