Organisers put on a spectacular show of fireworks to conclude the opening ceremony of the 2009 World Games in Taiwan. The event, which runs until July 26 in Kaohsiung, is billed as an alternative to the Olympics that is designed to include sports that don't qualify for Olympic status. More than 90 countries will be represented and more than 3,000 athletes will compete in disciplines that range from water skiing to tug-of-war.
