When night fell on Wednesday Oct. 13, the German capital was flooded with color for the opening ceremony of Berlin's Festival of Lights 2010. Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit presided over the official launch at Berlin's Potsdamer Platz. Over the next two weeks, 70 of the metropolis's most famous monuments and buildings will be transformed with a glittering array of bright lights and projections. The capital is expecting to welcome over 1 million visitors for the sixth annual Festival of Lights, which has become one of Berlin's most popular annual attractions. Many will take in the lights on special "LightSeeing tours" by boat, taxi, bus or on foot.
