As most of central Russia enters the seventh week of an unprecedented heat wave, Moscow health authorities announced on Monday that the average number of deaths each day in the capital had nearly doubled to 700. The heat in the capital has been made even more difficult to bear by the wildfires burning around Moscow, choking the air with smoke. Some 500 forest and peat fires continue to burn across Russia with young and old trying to flee Moscow. Pet owners are even trying to protect their furry friends from breathing the dangerous air.
