First the economy, now the rain. Heavy rain has caused flooding in northern Greece, and an emergency situation has been declared in the Evros region, which borders Turkey and Bulgaria. According to local officials, 23,000 hectares (about 57,000 acres) of land have been submerged and around €7 million ($9.6 million) worth of damage has been done. This picture of a flooded railway crossing comes from just outside Lavara, a village from which approximately 100 people have had to be evacuated.
