A Canadian soldier and an Afghan girl give each other "five" on Monday. The soldier, who serves in the 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment, was on patrol southwest of Kandahar in southern Afghanistan. Canadian forces in the country number around 2,800, although Canada has announced plans to begin withdrawing its troops starting in 2011.
