Water is released Tuesday from the Three Gorges Dam in Yichang in central China's Hubei province after months of heavy rain and flooding across the country. At 70,000 cubic meters per second, the flow of water was the fastest ever recorded. The dam -- a bulwark against flooding on the Yangtze, China's longest river -- is facing its toughest test since completion last year.
