Californians on Wednesday continued to battle destructive wildfires that have ravaged the southern part of the state. Well over a thousand homes have been destroyed near Los Angeles and San Diego and at least five people have been killed. Strong winds have hampered efforts to douse the flames leaving many firefighters, like this one watching the Harris Fire on Wednesday, helpless to stop the destruction.
