A recently graduated Chinese architect has come up with a novel solution for Peking's high rents and his own empty pockets. He designed the egg-shaped house -- complete with a washbasin pump, electric blanket and lights powered with solar panels -- as an intern at an architecture firm. Upon getting a job in Beijing, Dai Haifei, 24, built the egg-shaped abode out of bamboo strips and matting for around US$1,000 (€765). For the past two months, he has been living outside his office. Reactions to his home have been mixed, with some praising the young man's ingenuity and others seeing it as another sad story about migrants who move to big Chinese cities to work, but find themselves faced with hardships and high expenses.
