Despite protests from some and even rumors of a curse, the biggest Jesus statue in the world should be completed by the end of November. The main body of the statue, which will sit upon a hill in the western Polish town of Swiebodzin, not far from the Polish-German border, will be 33 meters (around 108 feet) high.

The statue, which will be taller than the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will be seen from the highway that links Warsaw and Berlin. The project has been controversial, with concern about the foundations as well as about the wages paid to laborers. But Sylwester Zawadzki, the local priest who initiated the project, hopes that the giant Jesus will turn the town into a pilgrimage site and bring jobs and money to the area.
