People gather in Leipzig to commemorate with candles 1989's peaceful revolution in former East Germany that started in the city. In September of that year, demonstrations against the ruling communist party, the SED, led to the resignation of the country's leader, Erich Honecker, in October and eventually to the fall of the Berlin Wall on Nov. 9.
