Villagers flee on motorbikes as the Mount Merapi volcano spews clouds of ash into the sky. Merapi, Indonesia's most active volcano, has claimed at least 36 lives since it began erupting last Tuesday. Up to 50,000 people have been evacuated into shelters. On Sunday fresh plumes of gas and ash spurted out in a fourth eruption, prompting a new wave of panic among local residents. Merapi is a sacred landmark for the Javanese -- the name translates as Mountain of Fire.
