A 65-year-old former prisoner of the Stasi, the dreaded secret police of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), incarcerated himself Thursday in the former Hohenschönhausen Prison in East Berlin. Carl-Walgang Holzapfel, who was once a member of the German far-right "Republikaner" (Republicans) party, will broadcast via Webcam his seven-day experience in the four-meter-square (43-square-foot) cell he was held in 43 years ago. The action is part of his effort to remind Germans of the darker side of East German communism.
